Recently I was blessed with the opportunity to help Kristin with her brand photography. I asked her to reflect on how these images will affect her branding. This is the conversation we had…. ME: How do these photos tell the story of your brand personality? Kristen: I don't think I quite realized how my home and office so clearly represent the calm and comfortable "zen" vibe that I try to embody in my mindfulness videos and lessons. The photos convey this so clearly. My brand is definitely a personality brand because my members and subscribers appreciate that I'm an experienced public school teacher passionate about sharing the mindfulness strategies I've learned with my educator colleagues. As such, I try to represent an aesthetic that is modern, secular, and inviting to all, and I believe these photos convey this. Pro Tip! The Power of Visuals The power of visuals is not to be underestimated. In this day and age of Facebook, Instagram and online shopping, we need to make sure that they visuals we are putting out there are memorable and stand out from the crowd. Not only that, but every visual you post online, whether on your website, Instagram or Facebook, must resonate with your brand. That may be through a style, color scheme, design, imagery and so on. ME: Why do you think authentic photography is important to your brand? Kristen: As I looked at the photos, I immediately saw how professional they (and as a result, I) looked. I'm excitedly looking forward to adding them to my site because I feel they are a visual representation of me and my brand in a way that is cohesive and meaningful. They convey the message "this person knows what she's doing and you can trust her to be the one to support you in your journey in mindfulness and as an educator." Pro Tip! Reinforce your branding! Your brand is about having a consistent logo, typeface, graphics and colors throughout your marketing platforms. This unified theme can be reinforced on your website, your blog, email signature, your business cards, social media accounts, your headshots, business photography, stationery, laptop accessories (mouse pad, the laptop itself can be branded too!) and of course other swag like branded coffee cups, t-shirts, etc. ME: Do you believe these photos are an investment in your future as a business owner? How so? Kristen: Absolutely. I knew that professional photos on my site would be an improvement, but the shots truly exceeded my expectations. It can be scary as a small business to make the investment in photos of this level because you're just starting out and may not yet have a reliable revenue stream. Feeling a bit of anxiety about this is natural and understandable, but this choice is a reasonable and smart choice and is absolutely an investment in yourself and your business. One way to think about it is to reason that you should be the first person to spend money on you and your business so that your future customers/clients/members can clearly see that they should spend money on you and your goods/services, as well! Combining Business with Pleasure, the way of the savvy entrepreneur. Star and Eagle are Oregon entrepreneurs who like to visit Colorado often. I have been fortunate enough to have booked sessions with them during their visits. Our session is two fold, one they are documenting their love and time together as a family; and two, they are grabbing some fresh images for the face of their businesses. In an hour, we capture some beautiful, artistic, romantic images of the two of them, then we work together to get some creative vignettes and headshots which can be used for their businesses. This is brilliant because, now part of their vacation is legitimately for business purposes. They can write off part of their travel and part of their photography if they choose to do so! Please see a selection of their images below.
